Warhol/The Factory + MTV/The City

If you watch MTV’s “The Hills” or “The City,” you know allllll about the fabulously cut-throat Fashion PR maven Kelly Cutrone. While you’ll only see her in head-to-toe black (show blacks as we call them in the biz), she is every bit the colorful girl! With her no bull attitude and merciless work ethic, she is one of the best in the industry. I mean...she got her start as assistant to THE Susan Blond herself! Swoon! But what gives her even more artistic credibility in my eyes is her husband-Ronnie Cutrone-who was Andy Warhol’s immediate assistant at The Factory from ‘72-’80! I mean, come ON! During his tenure he worked with Andy on paintings, prints, films and artistic concepts while I’m sure enjoying the fruits of glam frivolity that come along with it. Jeal-ous!

Definitely make sure to pick up a copy of Kelly’s new book, “If You Have To Cry Go Outside...And Other Things Your Mother Didn’t Tell You” when it goes on sale next Tuesday 2/2. In it, she tells young industry wannabees to “gather up your courage like an armful of free clothes at a McQueen sample sale.” Genius – and so true for those looking to make it in “the biz.” It’s part self-help book, part memoir and sure to be an insane read – especially if you’re in love with the Andy Warhol era and want to merge it with your love for MTV reality programming. Come to think of it, she must have had ME on her mind when writing this book :)
